Under the Work Health and Safety Act 2011, all workplaces must provide and maintain a safe work environment for their employees. To ensure the safety of the workplace, the employer must get all portable electrical appliances checked by a ‘competent person’ regularly to warrant that they are electrically safe. In a Construction environment, these items are to be tested and tagged in accordance with AS/NZS 3012:2010 by a test and tag technician to carry out any inspection and installations.
COURSE DETAILS:
The Test and Tag short course include the mandatory requirements of occupational health and safety and how they apply to the various electrotechnology work functions. It encompasses responsibilities for health and safety, risk management processes at all operative levels and adherence to safety practices as part of the normal way of doing work.
This unit covers the safety testing of electrical cord-connected equipment and cord assemblies. It includes working safely, using a portable apparatus tester, identifying faults, applying to tag, arranging for repair of faulty equipment, and complete testing documentation.
COURSE SUITABILITY
If you are a Health and Safety officer, a tradesman, a Fire and Safety officer, or an individual wanting to become a test and tag technician, this course prepares you to perform safety inspections of electrical equipment to Australian standards at residences or workplaces. It also paves the pathway for a pre-apprenticeship program for Certificate III in Electrotechnology.
Applicants must:
Be 18 years or over
Hold a valid form of photo ID accepted by Work Safe Victoria
Hold a valid visa to study in Australia (student visas are not accepted)
Complete your Language Literacy and Numeracy (LLN) assessment
Language, Literacy & Numeracy
You must undertake a language, literacy, and numeracy assessment during your induction session before beginning the qualification. Results will be assessed on an individual level by the assessor.
Depending upon the level of support required for the language, literacy, or numeracy an alternative training and assessment method may be used or you will be recommended to pursue the Foundation Skills program, which will help you fulfil the LLN gap and achieve the qualification.
